Available for almost two weeks, here is finally our test of the new Metropcs iPhone 14 Pro and Metropcs iPhone 14 Pro Max from Apple.The pandemic is over and with it, the good old habits have resumed, such as the face-to-face presentation of the new iPhones. Suddenly, it was during an event in Cupertino on September 7 that Apple formalized its new iPhone 14.

As has been the case for a few years, we can divide the new iPhone 14 into two ranges, the iPhone 14 with iPhone 14 Plus and Metropcs iPhone 14 Pro with iPhone 4 Pro Max . And yes, this year, no more iPhone mini, it has been replaced by the iPhone 14 Plus, which confirms a trend since the launch of the first iPhone minis, it is that does later do not sell. The iPhone 13 mini remains on sale, presumably while supplies last.

In short, this is not the subject today since we are focusing on the iPhone 14 Pro and its Max version, the flagships of the Cupertino company. And unsurprisingly, we find a design almost identical to its predecessors, the iPhone 14 Pro obviously brings its share of new features but once again, they have aimed with everything at the most tech-savvy such as the new photo block and especially the punch-in the screen called Dynamic Island. The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max offer the same technical characteristics apart from the screen and the battery.

This year, we took a little more time to test the new Metropcs iPhone 14 Pro and suddenly we’ve been playing with it for almost weeks and here is our opinion on the new iPhone 14 Pro.

As a reminder, the Metropcs iPhone 14 Pro and Metropcs iPhone 14 Pro Max offer you: 

On the packaging side, nothing very surprising except this very small box which does not include a USB charger or earphones. We find the smartphone as well as a USB-C to Lightning cable. And this year, we won’t even be entitled to wired headphones anymore. As for the available versions, the iPhois14 Pro are offered in 128GB, 25,6GB, 512GB and 1TB versions. Needless to say that the 1TB version is not the most accessible and if possible, we would recommend the 25ersion more. 

Count from 1329 euros for the iPhone 14 Pro in the 128B version . It will also have been understood, inflation and shortage of components oblige, it is 170 euros more than the iPhone the 13 Pro in 128GB version on the official price.

Design

When you discover the iPhone 14 Pro for the first time and if you don’t pay attention to the photo block or the Dynamic Island, you have the impression of having an iPhone 13 Pro in your hand. If Apple has changed the colors, we find an excellent finish that still commands respect. In terms of size, the iPhis 14 Pro are similar to the iPhone 13 Pro, even if the weights betray a little overweight which means that the iPhone 14 Pro Max is always heavy in a trouser pocket. We didn’t see it at first, but Apple has moved the wireless charging area. Suddenly, all accessories from last year are slightly shifted downwards. The most maniacal will update their accessories and will still necessarily go through the checkout. 

This year, Apple has kept the same design for its photo unit, but due to the fact of offering a new larger sensor, in size and resolution, the lenses are slightly larger. On an iPhone 14 Pro, the lenses are somewhat disproportionate. In all cases, we find this design inspired by iPhone 5 lights, a frosted glass back (shiny on the iPhone 14) of the most beauti,ful effect and a chrome metal outline (brushed aluminum on the iPhone 14). The combination of the two is very successful, particularly on the Space Black version and the Intense Violet version. On the first, the black is more intense while on the second, the purple offers variations of hues depending on the light sources. We love.

With a weight of 206g and its volume, we end up with a fair size that allows excellent handling of the iPhone 14 Pro. It is also the one we prefer. On the other hand, with itsize and a weight of 240g, the iPhone 14 Pro Max remains a heavy smartphone, especially when you know that the iPad mini is only 293g. Indeed, with yet only 16g more than the iPhone 12 Pro Max and 2g more than the iPhone 13 Pro Max, you can feel a real difference in the hand and especially in a trouser pocket. So, if this is where your smartphone is most of the time, we can only adv to really take it in hand before taking the plunge. 

On the back, there is a photo block composed of three cameras. And as we said above, we will especially notice very impressive lenses on the new iPhone 14 Pro. Besides, just compare the iPhone 14 Pro to the iPhone 13 Pro to see the difference in terms of the lenses! On the front, it did not go unnoticed, the iPhone 14 Pro no longer offers a notch but a punch in the pill-shaped screen. Moreover, we did not expect it but Apple baptized this punch Dynamic Island and it is clear that Apple continues to do Apple, namely a clever integration of the punchin iOS 16, so that we forget the punch. Now, if we notice in it enough the f days, the Dynamic Island daily basis and it is only on certain applications that we notice its presence. 

As a reminder, if Apple does not offer a simple round punch but a pill-shaped punch as was already the case on Huawei smartphones or more recently the Honor Magic 4 Pro (See our test HERE), it is because Apple offers Face ID, which is still just as practical and fast compared to a simple fingerprint reader, physical or under the screen. 

Screen and Audio

We obviously find an OLED screen which has been a standard at Apple for a few years. But this year, Apple is offering an even brighter screen and it’s impressive. In bright light conditions, the Metropcs iPhone 14 Pro will not fail. We obviously find Super Retina XDR, a Ceramic Shield protective layer, still this 19.5: 9 format, True Tone technology, haptic,c feedback, and above all ProMotion technology with an adaptive refresh rate up to 120 Hz which took so long to come to Apple’s smartphones and which is now a must on a premium smartphone.

If we put the screen itself aside, the big news since the iPhone X is that Apple has finally decided to abandon the notch for a punch. Last year, the notch of the Metropcs iPhone 13 Pro was already smaller, but in use, this did not necessarily show. This year, it’s a pill-shaped punch, as we’ve already seen on Android smartphones from Huawei or Honor. Thia s form of pill is not insignificant and it is justified because the punch integrates not only the front camera of the Metropcs iPhone 14 Pro but also 3D facial recognition, FaceID, from Apple. 

Apple could have stopped there with just a punch instead of the notch, but it’s misunderstanding Apple who wanted to stand out from its Android competitors. Here is Dynamic Island, a technology that integrates the punch in iOS so that we forget that it is a punch and therefore a material limit. And for once, Apple strikes a very daily basis, this does not necessarily bring a lot, the integration is particularly successful so we are sure that it will become the reference with integration on all future Android smartphones in the more or less near future. It’s and discreet, not necessarily super useful but we love it. 

On the audio side, there are stereo speakers and support for Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. As was already the case with its predecessors, the Metropcs iPhone 14 Pro offer excellent speakers with quality sound, powerful and with enough depth to do without headphones, even in an environment that is not necessarily calm. Note also excellent stereo management, both in portrait and landscape mode. So yes, it will always be better with headphones or external speakers, but the stereo effect is present on these speakers, so perfect for the short content that we are used to consuming now. And finally, unsurprisingly, there’s no 3.5mm audio jack port.

The years pass and look alike, Apple is always one step ahead regarding the power of its SoCs but it must be recognized that Qualcomm is gradually catching up and thus closing the gap. The new Apple A16 Bionobviously a racing beast and confirms Apple as one of the leaders in the Stock market. Now, to be honest, we have so much power that the A16 isn’t as impressive as the A15 was when it came out last year. The iPhone/iOS duo still works wonderfully and everything has a super daily basis, regardless of the application launched. On the other hand, this year, it should be noted that the iPhis 14 Pro are the only smartphones to offer Apple’s new SoC.

As we said above, exit the charger in the box but of course, the Metropcs iPhone 14 Pro remains compatible with fast wired charging at 20W (50% in 30 minutes). Added to this is wireless fast charging up to 15W via MagSafe and 7.5W with a conventional charger. Yes, we know, Android smartphones are doing much better this year with wired and wireless charging even up to 20re clearly not playing in the same league.

Photo and Video

The photo blocks of the Metropcs iPhone 14 Pro are the same. On the back, we find the famous trio with a main wide-angle, an ultra wide-angle, a, telephoto and a LiDAR scanner. If the last two do not change by still12-megapixel megapixel sensors, the main aera is the great novelty for Apple since 48-megapixel megapixel sensor and with tBinningxel Bining” technology which merges 4 pixels in one for more information, which is particularly useful in the age of computer-assisted photography. 

On this new 48 Megapixel sensor, there is a 24mm wide-angle lens with an aperture of F/1.78, which is slightly smaller than on the iPhone 13 Pro but which is compensated by this new sensor, larger and therefore more effective in low light conditions. We also find with this ma sensor a mechanical stabilization. And already, one of the advantages of this new sensor is that we find a real x2 zoom. Indeed, the iPhone 14 Pro will “crop” in the 48 Megapixel sensor to have a photo zoomed in x2 to 12 Megapixels. Practice. 

On the side of the ultra wide-angle, if we find a resolution of 12 Megapixels, it is a brand new sensor according to Apple. It is larger and thus allows sharper photos and a more effective macro mode. On the other hand, no evolution on the side of the telephoto x3 since we find the same 12 Megapixel sensor and the same 77mm lens as on the iPhone 13 Pro. 

But that’s not all, the no photos in photos and videos are not only material. If we find the Smart HDR and Deep Fusion technologies, Apple offers in the bowels of its A16 Bionic the Photonic Engine, an engine supposed to improve the Deep Fusion technology introduced last year but above all to help the Metropcs iPhone 14 Pro on the photos in conditions of low light. With the new 48 Megapixel sobviously find the management of the Apple ProRAW format, 12  or in 48 Mega obviously find the Photographic Styles and as a reminder, these are not simple filters but rather kinds of recipes that allow you to give a styled photo but unlike a filter, the style also adapts to the photo, it’s quite subtle but for the most demanding, it provides additional control. 

Andoesif not, do the Metropcs iPhone 14 Pro take great photos? Unsurprisingly and in ideal light conditions, the iPhois14 Pro are simply excellent. If we had about doubts with the main sensor, we are delighted to see the progress of the ultra wide-angle. The photos are detailed and stitched. Apple continues to try to offer faithful colors and is far from the over-contrast side of some of its competitors. As a result, the three focal lengths thus offer good versatility and above all, we appreciated the return of the x2 zoom which offers impressive quality while it is in a way a crop of 12 Megapixels in the sensor.

On the selfie side, we find12-megapixel megapixel sensor that fitted the iPhone 13 Pro. On the other hand, the lens is brighter on the iPhone 14 Pro. But that’s not all. Apple hadn’t necessarily mentioned it, but the front camera offers optical stabilization, which is quite rare for a front camera. Of course, Apple continues to use FaceID technology to improve Portrait mode. For selfie videos, it’s still 4K at 30fps and 1080p slow motion at 120fps.

And for video, let’s keep it simple, the Metropcs iPhone 14 Pro is quite simple, to date, smartphones in the video. And we are not even talking yet about the Action mode which brings its little novelty this year. In normal mode, the stabilization is already exceptional for a smartphone and this is not new. In recent years, the iPhone is doing wonderfully well and it’s not for nothing that some people use it as a reporting device. But this year, we’ve reached such a level that it’s becoming impressive.

Added to this is the Action mode which makes it possible to offer stabilization equivalent to that offered by GoPro or DJI. So yes, we are cutting back a little more on the focal lengths, but the result is impressive. We just regret that this Action mode is only limited to a resolution of 2.7k. We wve really liked to have 4K. And iobviously find the support for Dolby Vision, the Cinematic mode which is even more reliable tand his year, the ProRES Video mode for the most demanding.
